An Australian Winter Wedding from Matt Barwick Films

We have butterflies in our stomachs as we bring you this wedding video trailer by Matt Barwick Films. Sadly, we don’t get that many wedding videos sent to us here at Wedmania, as it still doesn’t seem to be all that popular and not as well established as having wedding photos taken. If you ask us, we would say it should be part of every wedding. When we ask couples who didn’t have a video of their wedding what they would do differently, one of the replies we get the most is that they wished they’d had one.

Luckily, Jocelyn and Anthony decided to have a video of their big day, and they must truly be happy with the result. They both wanted a wedding day full of warmth and charm, accentuated by lots of cute little details. Our hearts are still beating fast at the thought of these newlyweds whose expression in the video is probably the loveliest and most emotive we have ever seen.

This is a tour de force from Matt Barwick films. He has an uncanny knack for making films which are full of feeling and take your breath away. They also manage to give one the sensation of being right in the middle of it. Just sit back and be amazed by the vivid expressions on the faces of friends and family and demonstration of wedded bliss and love from all concerned.

San Francisco Wedding by Mike Larson Inc.

We are really excited about our tasty offering today, images by mega-talented Jake from Mike Larson Inc. photographic team. We’ve already had the pleasure of showing Jake’s work a couple of times and we are always quite overwhelmed when we see any new pictures by him. He loves to experiment and is enormously talented to shoot.

Eva and Trevor’s wedding slap bang right in the front of the San Francisco skyline is pure cinema and just wonderful. It is really brilliant to see how the combination of lots of simple ideas can create such a great effect.

Oh yes – did we mention our love for the bride’s dress? Its sheer elegance and particularly the black sash are just a dream … I would give anything to fit into a dress like that!!!

The Blue Petticoat

We have been impressed by the four photographic artists that make up Feather and Stone Photography based in Australia and their breath taking wedding coverage’s. They always seem to have the cutest couples with the loveliest wedding details. Like us, newlyweds Eliza and Alex were also transfixed by the originality of their photo style.

We were particularly taken by the bride in her wedding gown during the ceremony which took place on St Kilda Pier, Melbourne, Australia. She wore a blue petticoat beneath the main part of the dress. It was so wonderfully flouncy that you felt you could get lost in it! Eliza managed to look like the perfect bride. Bride and Groom as well as guests enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of this fabulously detailed vintage style wedding. The venue was outstanding and the air of romance boundless, really infectious!

We got the feeling that you would love this wedding just as much as we did and we do love to give you something new to ogle at. That’s why we’re showing you as much of it as we can right from the start …

Eliza says:

Our inspiration:
During our engagement, I was working in an environment where I saw many many divorcing couples who were going through very difficult separations. It’s hard to get really girly and over the top about a wedding while seeing how many people’s weddings don’t ultimately result in lasting, happy marriages, even though the wedding world promotes the dream that they all do. This meant that I never felt particularly “romantic” (in a Hollywood sense) about being engaged and I was never emotionally invested in having a “dream wedding” – for me, the romantic part about being engaged was planning for a solid, loving committed marriage. We both really saw our engagement as a time to work on our joint values together and think about the way we would make decisions about our shared life once we were married. We really did plan the wedding together – there was nothing about which we didn’t ultimately mutually agree. (This wasn’t always easy! But it was worth it.)

First thing on our wedding day:
Alex and I spent the morning of the wedding day together doing one of our favourite things – visiting our local farmers market. It’s a five minute walk from our house, and even though it was still raining, we just grabbed umbrellas and raincoats and headed out. We ate egg and bacon rolls in turkish bread and wandered about picking up gourmet cheeses, olives and olive oil to take on our honeymoon, as well as a big bunch of creamy roses. By the time we were back at home and I’d put the flowers in a vase, it was time to start getting ready! It was wonderful to spend the morning together doing something that we know we love – it was the perfect thing to do, as we knew it would centre us and be a relaxing, fun time.

Little surprises:
One surprise was that the colony of penguins that sometimes lives behind the restaurant came out during the night – lots of our guests left the venue to go around the back and see if they could spot any penguins!

Our wedding photos:
When we received the photos after the wedding, I couldn’t quite believe it – having them photograph our wedding was a dream come true even before we received the photos that came out of it – but receiving those photos was like holding the dream in my hands. They were unobtrusive – almost invisible! – while taking the photos, and yet the end product was absolutely spectacular. They captured a million perfect candid moments. We could not love our photos more.

Resümee:
We knew what we wanted out of our wedding before we even told anyone we were engaged – to get married in our backyard with just close family and friends in a fun, relaxed party atmosphere. But we live in an apartment, and we don’t have a backyard – we spend most of our outdoors time wandering around St Kilda or riding our bikes. Thankfully (after so much searching) the perfect location presented itself: Little Blue. It is a gorgeous indoor/outdoor vintage-styled restaurant that is right over the road from our house, at the end of the St Kilda Pier. This really set the tone for the day and meant that our wedding day felt just as we had wanted it to – like we were inviting our friends and family to share an almost-normal day in our lives. We didn’t want it to feel “wedding-y” and formal – rather, we wanted it to feel like an awesome party that was also personal and reflected our day to day values and choices. It didn’t make sense to us to apply different values to our wedding than we do to any other big life decision – so we didn’t. When making budgeting decisions, we prioritised having a wonderful celebrant (who we found in Sue Hamilton), great food, drinks and atmosphere for our guests, and memorable, beautiful photography. Everything else we chose, we tried to choose with ongoing use in mind, asking ‘would we wear/love it normally?’ Other than my wedding dress, I think just about everything we bought can and will be used again. (And I am still planning to find a way to wear my dress again!)

We must just mention another highlight; those ultra-talented photographers at Feather and Stone are coming to Europe!!! :) Fernando and Suzanne will be coming over for a fact finding trip in April/May of 2012, followed by Seth and Tenielle in July August.

They love ancient architecture and all the historic European cities, and especially any unusual places to celebrate a wedding, an old palace or castle, or even an intimate little chapel. They’ve intimated to us that their travel plans are still quite flexible and are open to any suggestions for viewing anything beautiful and out of the ordinary. These could be weddings, unusual engagement or portrait photo shoots – anything goes! Well, if we were in Germany on those dates, then I’m sure we’d be grabbing the phone right now!

Wedding for two by Expressions Photography

We’re not saying that getting married just with the two of you there is becoming a trend, but there are lots of couples who prefer to do it this way. Suzan and Jochen knew from the beginning that they just wanted the intimate togetherness of getting married without family and friends, – just the two of them. The best place was somewhere where people still strive for mutual respect and hope to realise their dreams and a place that could be close to nature. For them, Ouderkraal near Kapstadt in South Africa was just such a place for an intimate wedding celebration.

We are sure that anyone who sees these emotional wedding images from Expressions Photography will be blown away by the love and happiness expressed by this couple.

Suzan says:

Unser Hochzeitsgeheimnis:
Plan YOUR OWN wedding – and don’t let anybody else interfere Your ideas! Keep parents, sisters & brothers & all the other relatives out of the planning and make sure, that You will not accept complaints! Every couple spends so much time trying to fulfil everybody’s but the own wishes.

Unsere Inspiration:
We wanted this day to be our day full of love. We had a dream: To spend this special time together by ourselves– no relatives & friends who later on might complain about the music, the food, the gown, the other guests, the location……no disappointments on a day like this. We instead wished to keep this day vital & spirited in our memory. We desired to memorize every second of the day by ourselves and not by video.

We say good-by for the weekend with images of this dream-wedding, and will spend our time dusting off the cobwebs on long, drawn out walks along the beach. Have a great weekend, especially if it involves a wedding and we’ll be back very soon! :)

Love Photo Shoot by Kate Noelle Photography

You know how we are always excited when we get an e-mail from a foreign photographer asking us if we want to feature their images on HW? We love being able to show the most creative wedding ideas and the most unusual ones from around the world. ;)

So it is with today’s feature, which has awakened us from our winter hibernation with thoughts of a fabulous holiday on the endless Californian beaches. The icing on the cake with these pictures is that they also display this couple’s deep love for one another and their connection with nature.

Mirjam and David found their ideal holiday destination partly because of this fantastic loved-up photo shoot by Kate Noelle Photography. She is based in Orange County California and we are just amazed by this lovely couple and the brilliant pictures which reveal their love and strong emotions. Let’s all go off to California …
